The Plant Native is hiring a part-time freelance Digital Coordinator to help us publish native plant content, keep our website organized, and show up consistently on social.
This is a hands-on role for someone who’s equal parts: sharp writer, organized operator, and plant-literate human. You do not need to know every Latin name. You do need to understand how to talk about plants accurately, without making beginners feel like they’re back in school.
Role details
- Freelance (1099) role
- Hours: 15-20 hours/week
- Pay: $23/hour
- Location: Remote
- Timezone: Prefer overlap with Eastern Time
- Start: As soon as we find the right person
About The Plant Native
The Plant Native is a beginner-friendly platform that makes native planting feel doable (and fun). We focus on clear guidance for busy homeowners: what to plant where, what to avoid, what to expect through the seasons, and how to build a yard that supports real life. The Plant Native is independently owned; learn more about the mission and the founder.

What you’ll do:
Social (writing + publishing)
- Draft and schedule posts (primarily Instagram and Facebook using Meta Business Suite)
- Write captions in The Plant Native voice: smart, approachable, with a little bit of bite
- Turn longer articles into short posts, quick tips, and “start here” content
- Monitor comments/DMs and respond when appropriate (and flag what needs attention)
- Keep a simple content calendar moving
- Track basic performance weekly (what we posted, what worked, what to repeat)
Website (WordPress + Elementor)
- Upload, format, and publish content in Elementor (headings, spacing, images, links)
- Create and maintain internal links between related pages
- Add alt text, check mobile formatting, and catch broken links before anything goes live
- Keep categories/tags and page layouts consistent using our templates
Website copy support (drafting + editing)
- Draft short website sections from outlines and source notes (intros, FAQs, blurbs, resource pages)
- Break big articles into reusable modules (quick takeaways, “yes, if…”, planting ideas, common issues)
You’re a good fit if you
- Have plant adjacency: gardening experience, nursery work, ecology/horticulture coursework, environmental education, field research, botany hobbyist, or similar
- Can write clearly and keep beginner readers in mind
- Catch details other people miss (formatting, links, consistency, weird spacing)
- Can follow a system and improve it as you go
- Can work independently and communicate progress reliably
Nice to have
- WordPress and Elementor experience
- Basic SEO comfort (titles, meta descriptions, internal linking, image alt text)
- Figma, Photoshop, or Canva skills (light graphic assembly, nothing fancy)
- Comfort reading and summarizing sources (extension sites, botanical gardens, peer-reviewed articles when needed)
How to apply
Send:
- A short note (5–10 sentences) on why this role fits you
- 2–5 writing samples (captions, social posts, short article, or anything that shows a brand voice in action)
- Links or screenshots of social work or web work, if you have them (optional, but helpful)
